It’s Springtime, but my feet are cold!

So, after thinking about the budget, I pretty much chickened out of this whole idea. It seemed ridiculous that I would pay so much for other people to eat and drink. Well, I’m thinking I might have been a little too much of a Debbie Downer. I wanted to have this extravagant wedding-like affair, but it’s not really necessary to have a good party. I can throw a small, but hella fun birthday party without spending much dough. I’m going back to the drawing board – I think. I’m still a firm believer in my idea, I just don’t do so well on the execution side of things… stay tuned!

$8000??

Budget time. The not so fun time. This party idea has been just that, an idea. Now I actually have to plan it – and that costs money. This once super extravagant party may get scaled down, but who doesn’t love a challenge? My challenge: to throw this party like it’s 1999 on an $8000 budget. If I had my way, probably half of that would be spent on some irresistible Christian Louboutin shoes, but I’m an adult and I can be responsible, right?

So, all of you who have thrown parties or weddings, let me know some helpful hints on how to save money. Post comments or links below, I’ll check them out and report my findings.

Maybe if I save enough I can buy those shoes *sigh*

How Pinteresting!

For the most part only preparation for my party has been discussions with friends and co-workers. Then I found pinterest. It is a very addicting site, but it offered the unique chance to create an online inspiration board. I’m a very visual person, so this is helpful for me to discover dresses, shoes, color palettes, decorating ideas, etc. You can check out my “Golden Birthday Party” board here. So far I’m leaning towards a possible peacock color theme. What do you think?

The Big 29…

Today is my 29th birthday – ugh. That big nasty number creeps ever closer.

BUT today will be the first day of an experimental journey, so hold on…

The basic idea is that I will turn 30 on the 30th of January, 2013. This is referred to as a golden birthday. Since I’m scared of this number, a fun birthday party seemed in order. As I started thinking about it, the scope started to get much larger. You see, I don’t ever plan on getting married – more on this later – but a small part of me still wants to get married, no matter how strongly I feel. I figured out that I want to get married for the wedding itself, not the love, commitment, companionship, etc. – but the freaking party! So instead of legally binding myself to another human being JUST so I can plan and throw a fun party, I decided I’m going to throw myself a golden birthday party, but at a wedding reception level. Think of MTV’s show “My Super Sweet 16″ but for an adult. Yes it will be over the top. Yes it will be everything the little girl in me dreams of. No it will not be expensive – at least I will try. This is where the second part comes in. I know there are a ton of you wedding gurus out there. Let’s open up to each other and share party planning ideas on a budget! Speaking of… I better start researching budgets.

365 days to go – gulp!
